MANAGEMENT
     
Dr. Hamid Najafi is a founder of 3ei and co-founder and CEO of Broadlink Research, Inc. (BLR) a Silicon Valley wireless product company. Dr. Najafi received his Ph.D. from Stanford University, department of Electrical Engineering, in 1983. Prior to BLR, Dr. Najafi founded Wireless Link Corp. in 1993 with two engineers and grew the company and sold it in 2000 to CSI Wireless of Calgary Canada. Prior to Wireless Link, in 1986, he co-founded Transtech International, a research and development firm specializing in wireless technologies. Dr. Najafi served as the first elected Vice president of the Society of Iranian Professionals (SIP), was a Board member of the American-Iranian Council, and has advised several other non-profit organizations.
     
 
Dr. Dariush Rafinejad is a founder of 3ei and founder and President of Blue Dome, a business consulting firm for product leadership and organizational excellence. He has over 25 years of executive leadership experience in global high technology companies of the Silicon Valley in California. He was Corporate Vice President at Applied Materials Corporation and Vice President at Lam Research Corporation. He has been investor and member of the board of three high-tech startup companies. He was adjunct professor of marketing at Haas Business School, UC Berkeley and Dean of Management at Menlo College in 1998-1999. He has also taught internationally in Hungary, Russia and Iran. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and was a post-doctoral researcher at Imperial College in London, England.
     
 

Mr. Amir Ameri, is the chief financial officer of 3ei and VP of Business Development at Chemtex International. Mr. Ameri has over 26 years of experience in finance, operations, business development and strategic partnerships with chemical, food and high technology companies. Mr. Ameri started his career with Occidental Chemical Company and was the Controller at Castle & Cooke, Inc. He also held CFO position of Magic Edge Inc., Resumix Inc. and Aperto Networks Inc. Mr. Ameri has a BA in Economics and an MBA in Finance and Management from Stanford University.

     
     
ADVISORY BOARD
     
 
Dr. Ali Bakhshi is currently Research Deputy and head of Civil Engineering Department Laboratories at Sharif University of Technology (SUT). He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from SUT and Shiraz University in 1988 and 1990, respectively. In 1998 he received his Ph.D from Hiroshima University, Japan where he joined as a full-time faculty member in the same year. In 2000 he moved to SUT and involved in design and installation of shaking table facility. Dr. Bakhshi’s main interest includes experimental and analytical research in Structural control, Seismic performance of Adobe Structures, Seismic Hazard and Risk Analyses, and Random Vibrations. He has published several papers in the international journals and conferences.
     
 
Dr. Mohammad Ali Ghannad is currently the head of Earthquake Engineering Division of Department of Civil Engineering at Sharif University of Technology (SUT). He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from SUT in 1988 and 1991, respectively. In 1998 he received his Ph.D. from Nagoya University, Japan and joined SUT as a faculty member in the same year. He has 17 years of experience in research and consulting in the field of structural design and earthquake engineering. Dr. Ghannad’s main research interests are Structural Dynamics, Seismic Performance Based Design, Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction and Vulnerability Study of Adobe Structures. He is author and co-author of several international papers in these fields.
     
 
Professor Vitelmo V. Bertero is presently Professor Emeritus at the Department of Civil and EnvironmentalEngineering, and Research Engineer at the Earthquake Engineering Research Center at the University ofCalifornia (UC), Berkeley. In 1947 he received his degree in Civil Engineering from the Facultad de Ciencias Matemáticas, Físico-Químicas y Naturales, Universidad del Litoral, Rosario, Argentina, his native country. In 1955 he received his M.S. degree and, in 1957, his Sc.D. degree in civil engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1958 he joined the Department of Civil Engineering at UC Berkeley, where, from 1988 to 1990, he was the Director of the Earthquake Engineering Research Center, and where for the past 46 years he has been carrying out numerous integrated analytical and experimental studies on seismic behavior of civil engineering facilities. Professor Bertero has published more than 350 papers and reports on various issues in earthquake engineering and received numerous national and international awards for his teaching and original research efforts. In 1990 he was awarded the Berkeley Citation, UC’s highest honor. In 1971–72 Professor Bertero served as the chief technical advisor to the UNESCO Mission at the International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering, Tokyo.
     
 
Dr. Yousef Bozorgnia is Associate Director of the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research (PEER) Center. PEER is a national earthquake engineering research center headquartered at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Bozorgnia received his Ph.D. degree in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He has 25 years of experience in research and consulting in earthquake engineering and has been principal engineer and managing engineer in engineering organizations in northern California. His experience encompasses two areas of earthquake engineering: structural earthquake engineering, and engineering characterization of strong ground motions. He is author and co-author of numerous research publications on various issues in earthquake engineering. Dr. Bozorgnia and Professor Vitelmo V. Bertero have recently edited a comprehensive book titled “Earthquake Engineering: From Engineering Seismology to Performance-Based Engineering.” The book has just been released. In 1995, the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) awarded Bozorgnia the U.S. National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program (NEHRP) Professional Fellowship. He is a member of various scientific and professional organizations, and a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
     
 
Mr. Rajendra Desai is the Hon. Jt. Director & Managing Trustee, National Centre for Peoples’-Action in Disaster Preparedness (NCPDP), www.ncpdpindia.org, 103 Antariksh, Dr. V.S Road, Ahmedabad 380015. He is also honorary member of the Society of Structural Engineers Of Southern California; Associate Member of Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, Oakland, California; and Life Member of Indian Society of Earthquake Technolgy. Mr Desai has received numerous awards including: A.S.Arya University of Roorkee Award 2000 for Disaster Mitigation, November 2000 and Hari Om Ashram HUDCO Award for Dissemination of Earthquake Resistant Housing Technology in Latur. Mr. Desai is a Consultant for Disaster Mitigation to various organizations in India including Prime-Minister’s Relief Fund – Repair & Retrofitting and Reconstruction of schools. He has been technical assistance to several States including: Gujarat U.P., Uttaranchal, and Maharashtra for Field Shake Table Program for Confidence Building, Reconstruction of villages and Earthquake Safety Initiative.
     
 
Seyed Ebrahim Mousavi Eshkiki is a graduate student at Sharif University of Technology (SUT). He received his B.S. from SUT in 2003 and currently he is working on his M.Sc. thesis project titled "Structural Typology of Traditional Houses of Iran Based on Their Seismic Behavior" which is expected to finish by the end of 2005. He was ranked 11th among 15000 participants in the Nationwide Entrance Examination of Universities for Graduate Studies (2003) and 2nd in Nationwide Olympiad of Civil Engineering Students (2003). Mr. Mousavi's research interests include vulnerability study of masonry houses, structural control and applications of fuzzy logic and artificial intelligence in earthquake engineering.
     
 
Arash Khosravifar is a graduate student at Sharif University of Technology (SUT). He received his B.S. from SUT in 2003 and currently he is working on his M.Sc. thesis project titled "Structural Typology of Traditional Houses of Iran Based on Their Seismic Behavior" which is expected to finish by the end of 2005. He was ranked 8th among 400,000 participants in Iran Nationwide University Entrance Exam for Undergraduate Studies (1998). He has one year of laboratory work on "High Strength and Light Concrete" (2001) and also work experience in a consulting engineers company (Sazian) from 2002 to 2004. Mr. Khosravifar's research interests are Structural Dynamics, Vulnerability Study of Rural Houses, Control of Structure, and Bridge Engineering.

Farrokh B. Malihi has over 25 years of experience in petrochemical industry, and consumer products. He is founder and managing director of Fargol Group, an international consulting firm specializing in product design and development, research, and professional training for petrochemical industry, detergents and personal care products industry.

Prior to his consulting experience he was a section manager for household product development at Colgate-Palmolive Technology Center, Piscataway, New Jersey, where he spent ten years in positions of increasing responsibility in research and development. His professional experience also includes four years as senior scientist at Glidden Coatings & Resins, Division of ICI Chemicals, Strongsville, Ohio.

He completed his graduate studies in Polymers & Surface Sciences at Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University, and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology.

Farrokh Malihi is holder of two U.S. patents, and three international patents on detergent formulation and processing. He has published over thirty technical papers in the field of polymers, detergents, and surfactant technology, and has been a frequent speaker at major international conferences.

Dr. Farzad Naeim is the Vice President and General Counsel for John A. Martin & Associates, Inc., (JAMA) in Los Angeles, one of the largest structural and earthquake engineering consulting firms in the United States (www.johnmartin.com). He has been with JAMA since 1982 when he received his Ph.D. from University of Southern California. Dr. Naeim is a licensed civil and structural engineer in California. In 2002, he obtained his J.D. with highest honors from Concord Law School. He has been admitted to practice law in California. In addition, he is a licensed patent attorney. Dr. Naeim is a member of Board of Directors of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) and the editor of Earthquake Spectra, the professional journal of EERI. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Consortium of Organizations for Strong Motion Observation Systems (COSMOS), the Industrial Advisory Councils of UCLA and Cal State Northridge (CSUN), and the Advisory Council of the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC). He is a member and a past president of the Los Angeles Tall Buildings Structural Design Council. Dr. Naeim has authored two widely used textbooks on earthquake engineering and has published more than 120 papers and developed 45 different software systems for earthquake engineering design and education.
